[이뉴스TV] 이광열 기자 = 한국공작기계공업협회(회장 류흥목)의 '제9회 공작기계인의 날' 행사가 지난 3일 오후 서울 삼성동 코엑스 인터콘티넨탈호텔에서 김영학 지식경제부 차관, 이희범 前산업자원부 장관, 국회 서상기 의원, 이상천 한국기계연구원장 등 공작기계 관계자 300여 명이 참석한 가운데 성황리에 개최됐다.
'공작기계인의 날'은 국내 공작기계 종사자들이 한자리에 모여 유공자 포상과 함께 한해 공작기계인의 노고를 치하하고 국내 공작기계 산업의 지속적인 발전을 도모한다는 취지에서 지난 2001년 처음 시행돼 올해로 제9회째를 맞는 공작기계인들의 축제마당이다.
2001년, 처음 시작 당시만해도 공작기계산업 규모는 생산1조 7천억원, 수출4억불로 세계 11위에 불과했으나 업계는 비롯한 학계·연구계 등 적극적인 기술개발과 노력의 결과 8년이 지난 지금은 생산 4조8천억원, 수출 19억불로 세계 6위(‘08년기준)의 공작기계 강국으로 성장했다.
그러나 지난해 세계금융위기로 인해 공작기계 산업도 수요격감으로 침체국면에 접어들었다가, 최근 들어 경기하락세가 진정되고 자동차 산업 등 제조업의 설비투자가 늘어나면서 점차 개선되고 있으며, 지난 10월에는 수주가 2,299억원으로 전월대비 12.5%, 전년 동월대비 11.2% 증가하여 뚜렷한 회복세를 보이고 있다.
또한 이날 행사에서는 협회에서 처음 확보한 훈장을 최우각 (주)대성하이텍 사장이 수상하였고, 전대억 한국OSG(주) 과장이 대통령표창 등 유공자 22명이 수상했다. 대구에 소재한 (주)대성하이텍은 공작기계 핵심 부품 (Spindle Spacer, Collet, Sleeve 등)을 개발하여 일본에 수출하는 등 매출의 95%이상을 수출하여 부품의 대일역조 개선에 기여한 유망한 중소기업이다.
한편, '공작기계인의 날' 행사에 앞서 협회에서는 대학(원)생들에게 공작기계산업에 대한 인식제고와 우수 기술인력 양성을 위해 이공계 대학(원)생을 대상으로 공작기계 우수 기술논문을 공모했다. 그 결과 23편이 공모됐고 이중 우수작 5편(창원대 황영국, 한국항공대 조대욱, 김철호, 문재흠, 부산대 신인동, 한국과학기술원 김성운, 김종수, 서울산업대 장동민, 한다훈, 원영재) 에 대해서는 논문 발표와 지식경제부 장관상 등 포상을 실시했다.
이어서 산업자원부 장관을 역임한 이희범 現 STX에너지 회장이 '세계경제 위기속에서 우리 기업의 대응'이라는 주제로 강연을 했다.
